Fenerbahce are interested in signing David Luiz from Arsenal this summer and are in advanced talks with the Brazil international, per Turkish website Asist Analiz via Sport Witness.

The central defender’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Arsenal do have the option to extend that deal for another year should they wish but neither the Gunners nor Luiz are keen to do that.

Fenerbahce, as a result, are interested in signing the 33-year-old in the transfer window and have entered into negotiations with the defender.

Luiz has made 25 appearances thus far this season and has played 90 minutes in 10 out of the club’s last 11 games.

Nevertheless, it appears that he will be on his way in the summer as Fener look to lure him to Turkey.

He initially wanted to return to Benfica but Fenerbahce are said to be offering him significantly better wages.

He currently earns just over £125,000-per-week in north London, per Spotrac.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This feels like a mistake from Arsenal.

Luiz remains a key member of Mikel Arteta’s squad and continues to be first-choice at centre-back.

Letting him leave without receiving a fee is likely to be the wrong decision, though the club do have the option of bringing William Saliba into the fold next term.

He has been on loan at St Etienne this term, making 12 appearances.

The pressure is on him to hit the ground running, then, particularly if Luiz does leave the club.

It remains to be seen if this will come back and bite the club.
