The Premier League is back!

And that means that Liverpool are closing in on a Premier League title triumph.

They are 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City and their victory, at this point, is nothing short of inevitable.

They take on Everton this weekend in a game that could well see the Reds crowned champions, should other results go their way.

It’ll be slightly odd, of course, because there will be no fans in attendance, but even still, it will bring to a close a 30-year drought.

There will, thus, be socially distanced celebrations up and down Merseyside.

Before the game, GIVEMESPORT has taken a look at the best headlines surrounding the club.

Coutinho bitterness

Philippe Coutinho’s return to Liverpool continues to be touted by the media.

According to Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, Liverpool have entered the race to sign the Brazil international.

However, Barcelona, who loaned Coutinho to Bayern Munich, are not willing to countenance a deal with the Reds.

Liverpool extricated a fee of £142 million from Barca for the attacking midfielder in 2018 and, as such, the Catalan giants are not willing to let him move to Anfield on loan.

One has to assume that this is bitterness from the Liga club, who clearly haven’t seen the best from the playmaker.

James Pearce’s update

James Pearce, The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent, has weighed in on the Coutinho story.

Speaking on The Red Agenda podcast, which aired on June 16th, Pearce was asked about the possibility of the midfielder moving to Anfield.

However, he took steps to pour cold water on the speculation.

He said: “I honestly don’t see it happening. I just think it just doesn’t make sense. I think the only glimmer is if a deal dropped to such a low level financially, with Barcelona being willing to essentially subsidise his wages.

“I think some people have short memories about how much of a stink he did kick up in terms of the transfer request on the eve of a new season.

“That was very unsettling and detrimental to the club and he claimed that he didn’t feel like he was valued enough by [Jurgen] Klopp.

“Then, even when Liverpool did finally sell him, I remember hearing Klopp talk about how there was just no chance, he said, of keeping him.”

He added: “I would be absolutely amazed if it happened.”

New Joe Hardy deal

Joe Hardy has been handed a new deal at Anfield, per the club's official website.

The 21-year-old joined the club in January from Brentford B, scoring three goals in three games for the U23s.

He made his first-team debut in February against Shrewsbury Town, playing eight minutes in the 1-0 FA Cup win.

The 21-year-old has now committed to fresh terms in a major show of faith from the Reds.
