Everton are interested in signing Napoli winger Hirving Lozano this summer.

The news was first reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) who claim the Mexican has a request from the Toffees to join them.

Lozano has only been in Naples for a year but has struggled to make an impact, scoring just three times after his switch from PSV.

It's understood that the 24-year-old has interest from Spain and England and it appears as though former Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen for a reunion.

The Mexico international has been at the centre of controversy recently after he was told to leave a training session due to a lack of effort.

Currently rated at £25.2m by Transfermarkt, it's not mentioned how much he could cost the Merseyside outfit.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson...

Given the number of options Everton have in wide areas - Bernard, Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and co, this perhaps isn't a deal that the Toffees need to wrap up.

That's especially when you consider his record under Ancelotti already. After signing for the Italian last summer, he scored just three goals and failed to register a solitary assist in 16 outings.

However, he is a player with glowing reviews, earning magnificent praise from Director of Football Marcel Brands.

The Dutchman scouted and then signed him from Mexico in 2017, stating at the time: "When you look at his playing style, without wanting to compare, you know, Lozano has what Messi also has – a centre of gravity low to the ground, the ball is usually quickly under control, very explosive and agile. Then your opponents automatically force mistakes."

It was quite the statement to make but it's easy to see where those types of comparisons come from.

He scored 19 goals last term on his way to amassing 2.2 dribbles per match in the league.

It's rather coincidental that Brands once spoke so highly of him, but it's no surprise, therefore, that he's now catching the eye of Everton.
