Mikel Arteta has added fuel to the fire of David Luiz's departure by leaving him out against Manchester City.

The Arsenal defender is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly in discussions over a move away from the club.

That's as per Turkish website Asist Analiz via Sport Witness who claim that the Brazilian is in 'advanced talks' with Fenerbahce.

Arsenal do have the option to extend that deal for another year should they wish but neither the Gunners nor Luiz are keen to do that.

Fenerbahce, as a result, are interested in a deal, and that speculation has seemingly affected his preparations for the clash with Manchester City.

Arteta therefore decided to leave Luiz on the substitutes bench and hinted at unrest when explaining his reasons pre-match.

He said: "A few things that have happened in recent weeks.

“I have to pick the team that I think is best to win today, and that’s what I’ve done.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

It certainly doesn't look good for David Luiz.

Reports of discussions with Fenerbahce are nothing to be ashamed of given his contract situation, but it doesn't appear like good news for Arsenal fans.

The Gunners would be keen to keep him at the club next season, but if reports are to be believed then it might be the case that his days in London are numbered.

Mikel Arteta's decision to drop him against Manchester City is arguably the biggest hint yet over his future.

Now we just await confirmation over what the future holds.
