Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admitted he was “concerned” about Eric Garcia after the 19-year-old defender came off worse in a collision with teammate Ederson in the club’s 3-0 win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

Garcia was taken off on a stretcher in the 80th minute after Ederson clattered into the Spaniard as he raced off his line to make a clearance.

The teenager came off worse and was taken to hospital with a head injury.

“We are concerned about Eric, of course,” Guardiola said afterwards, per Man City’s website.

“He is conscious, but he is going to be tested tonight because a kick in the head is always so dangerous.”

The reaction from the players on the pitch shows just how bad the incident was.

The injury led to 11 minutes of injury time and it was in the added on period that Phil Foden scored City’s third goal to complete a comprehensive win.

Guardiola continued: “I am pretty sure we are going to do absolutely everything to be sure that Eric feels fine. I think after what happened, he may be in the hospital for one or two nights.

“We are going to make sure everything is fine for him.”

Before the incident, Garcia had produced a composed performance in just his third Premier League start and earned praise from his manager.

“Eric came back incredibly well,” added the City boss.

“He is so intelligent to guide the line. It was not easy to play against Aubameyang. He is training really well and we tried to work with Juanma and Rodolfo in this period.

“He understands perfectly well. This season, especially in the winter time, he always played good. He doesn’t make mistakes. He is always focused.

“In this game, we knew we were playing dynamic players. He understands the position and the movement.”

We wish Garcia a speedy recovery.
