Leeds are in the hunt to sign midfielder Patrick Erras this summer.

The midfielder is available on a free transfer with his contract at German second division club Nurnberg coming to a conclusion at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old is interesting not only Leeds, but also QPR and Brentford according to Fussball Transfers (via Inside Futbol),

Three clubs in Bundesliga 2 are also targeting a move for the colossal 6 foot 5 frame of Erras but according to the report, he prefers a move to England.

He has already rejected a contract offer from his current club but is only willing to join another German side if a move to English shores fails to materialise.

Erras has played 19 times for Nurnberg this season, scoring twice and failing to assist.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This would be a smart piece of business from Leeds, certainly as far as finances go. It's been made clear in the past that the club are right on the threshold of financial fair play so in terms of signings, bargains could be the order of the day.

Achieving promotion to the Premier League would certainly help their financial cause but if they do indeed go up, their idea of signing Erras has to be questioned. After all, he's playing for a side fourth from bottom in Bundesliga 2 this term.

Though, if they stay in the Championship, he's a player that could very much take up the role of Kalvin Phillips.

The Leeds born midfield general has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and if they fail to go up it wouldn't be a great surprise if he packed his bags.

Signing Erras, however, would present them with a replacement in the holding midfield role - an area of the pitch the German is accustomed to playing in.

Most interestingly, the 25-year-old is strong in the air, winning 3.1 aerial duels per game this season while his passing also matches up with something Marcelo Bielsa would want - amassing a success rate of 83.5% this term.
