David Luiz took full responsibility for Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday after producing a one-man horror show at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian centre-back made a howler to let Raheem Sterling score City’s first goal just before half-time.

Then minutes after the restart, Luiz was sent off after conceding a penalty for a clumsy challenge on Riyad Mahrez.

It was a wretched performance from a player whose contract is set to expire in the coming weeks.

Many Arsenal supporters will be happy if they never see the 33-year-old play for the club again.

The memes quickly began meme and the greatest of the lot might just be a video of his disasterclass in full.

It begins with Luiz receiving instructions from Mikel Arteta as he prepares to come on and ends with him trudging off after being shown a red card.

It’s without a doubt one of the worst performances in Premier League history.

Luiz took the blame, though, as he reflected on his contract situation and admitted he wants to stay in north London in an honest interview at full-time.

“It's not the team's fault, it was my fault," he told Sky Sports.

"Today I think the team did well, especially with 10 men, the coach is amazing, the players did amazing, it's just my fault.

"I took the decision to play, I should have taken another decision in the last two months, but I didn't. It was all about my contract, whether I stay or not. I have 14 days to be here, and that's it. Today was my fault.

"I don't want to use it as an alibi or an excuse, but it's my fault and that's it.”

Luiz may not get his wish to stay at Arsenal, though.

He started the game on the bench and was only introduced after Pablo Mari suffered an injury midway through the first half.

How can Arsenal ever rely on him again?
