Celtic have been handed a massive boost in their attempts to hold onto Odsonne Edouard this summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move away to the Premier League with clubs such as Arsenal taking an interest in him.

However, interest from German outfit Borussia Dortmund looks to have cooled. That's according to Sport1 who suggest they've pulled out of the race to sign him due to finances.

The report claims Celtic were looking for €30m (£26.9m) in order to sell him but that is too steep a sum for Lucien Favre's men.

Their interest has also reportedly been dropped because they now possess Erling Haaland. As a result, they will pursue other targets.

Neil Lennon has made it no secret that he wants Edouard to stay as the club aim to tie him down to an extended contract.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This will come as a colossal boost to Lennon and Celtic who will be hoping and praying that as many suitors as possible drop out of the race to sign Edouard this summer.

They may also inadvertently be saved by Covid-19, a disease that has not only wreaked havoc with people's lives but also finances. That goes for the footballing world too.

A fee of around £25.6m normally wouldn't be too much for a side such as Dortmund but in this climate and because they already have Haaland they are sensible to pursue other options.

However, this could come as bad news to some of Celtic's targets. If the club keep Edouard at Parkhead then it feels unlikely they'd move for someone else.

Lyndon Dykes and Ivan Toney are among the latest faces to be linked with a move to Glasgow but for the time being, Edouard's future surely has to be the priority.
