Everton have been in contact with Thiago Silva according to journalist Duncan Castles. The journalist took to Twitter on Thursday morning to confirm that the Toffees have offered the PSG defender a two-year contract.

Also taking the interest of Tottenham, the defender is on a colossal £325k-a-week with the French Champions, a wage that Everton surely cannot afford.

No detail has been provided on the salary Carlo Ancelotti's men have offered Silva but one would have to think that he'd have to take a significant reduction.

The 35-year-old has also caught the eye of Arsenal and is available on a free transfer once his contract finishes at the end of the season.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Despite his age, this would be a colossal show of ambition from Ancelotti and Marcel Brands.

The Italian walked into Goodison Park with ambitions of getting Everton into Europe and the acquisition of someone like Silva would surely bring them closer.

Captain of PSG and Brazil, the centre-back has been capped 88 times by his country, showing elite defensive skills on the continental and international stage.

So far this term, he's made 1.3 tackles per game, a tally that would put him behind only Yerry Mina in Everton's list of centre-backs.

However, it's his ability on the ball that's one of the most eye-catching aspects of his game. A pass success rate of 95.5% puts him above every single Toffees player to start a match this season.

It remains to be seen whether Silva is interested in moving to Merseyside but with an offer now firmly on the table, he'll certainly have to consider it.

Silva has played 34 times under Ancelotti for PSG in the past.
