The Premier League could make an announcement on Newcastle's takeover this week.

That's according to the presenter of The Transfer Window Podcast with Duncan Castles, Ian McGarry.

In a discussion about the takeover and PIF's plans to buy the Magpies from Mike Ashley, he said

"There has been an indication that the Premier League may make an announcement on the takeover this week.”

After months of waiting for everything to be concluded, this is potentially huge news in the ongoing events at St James' Park.

Could Mike Ashley finally be set to end his spell in the north-east? That is all in the Premier League's hands.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This is a potentially massive moment in the Prince Investment's Fund's bid to buy the club.

Newcastle fans have been waiting on tenterhooks for the takeover to finally be announced and they may well have that news in the coming days.

The WTO report on Saudi Arabia's piracy didn't mention anything about the Magpies but it has been condemned by BeIN Sports since.

A rival bid from Henry Mauriss upset the apple cart somewhat but he's still required to pay a 5% deposit in order to register an official bid.

Whether PIF are allowed to formally takeover is very much up to the Premier League owners and directors test but there has been no clear inkling as to whether they will.

If they do indeed fail to pass, then Mauriss could well have a free go at buying Newcastle. That, however, is also up in the air.

The Times reported on Wednesday that their sources weren't ever aware that the Amerian entrepreneur had even made a bid.

Life really is never simple at Newcastle, is it?
