It’s not the first time that Ronaldo’s siblings have leapt to his defence.

His sister Katia Aviero wrote a lengthy rant on Instagram after Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk joked that Ronaldo wasn’t a rival for the 2019 Ballon d’Or award.

“Now, dear Virgil, where you are going, Cristiano Ronaldo has gone and has come a thousand times,” she said.

“You see, my dear Virgil, that Cristiano Ronaldo was a tri-champion in the country where you have been playing for years and you still haven't got your hand in the can.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was even the best player and best scorer in the country where you play Virgil.”

Sarri admitted after Wednesday’s defeat that Ronaldo and his teammates are still lacking sharpness as they continue to work towards full fitness.

“He's in the same shape as the others, like Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa, he is lacking the sharpness to do what works best for him,” Sarri told RAI, per the Daily Mail.
