Ivan Toney could be 'devastating' if he signed for Celtic this summer, according to Sam Parkin.

The Peterborough United striker bagged 26 goals this season and unsurprisingly, is now attracting the attention of some quite reputable teams.

The Scottish Sun have reported that Celtic and Rangers are among those who are interested, while a number of other clubs in the Championship are also said to be keen on the £15million-rated frontman.

While his next destination is up for debate, former EFl striker Sam Parkin has said that he's surprised that the likes of Leeds United or West Brom didn't make a move for him earlier.

Speaking to Read Celtic, he said: "He’s on the way to being that type of player who can devastate in the box, he’s not electric in terms of his pace but he has clever movement and his hold up [play] is the best around.

"I felt he would be perfect for Leeds, West Brom in January, to go and just cement their positions.

"[Whoever gets him] will need to tap into what [Peterborough] did for the last couple of years because he’s not been prolific up until the last couple of seasons, so they’ll need to tap into that."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

There's no doubt that Ivan Toney is capable of playing at a higher level.

Having dominated League One this term, the former Newcastle United man is appears to be more than ready to step up.

Whether he's ready for a move to the Premier League is up for debate, but Toney could certainly do a job for a promotion-chasing Championship club, or a top of the table Scottish side like Celtic or Rangers.

The only stumbling block is that £15million price tag which may well prove to be troublesome.
