Tottenham have entered the race to sign West Bromwich Albion's Nathan Ferguson this summer.

According to Football Insider, they're planning to hijack Crystal Palace's attempts to land the defender by offering terms to the 19-year-old.

Ferguson nearly signed for Palace in January for a fee of £11m but the deal collapsed when he unexpectedly failed a medical.

Roy Hodgson's men reportedly still have plans to try and lure him to Selhurst Park but they now face competition from Jose Mourinho in the hunt.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the season but a compensation fee of £4m will have to be paid by Daniel Levy or any potential suitor.

The teenager has played 21 times for the Baggies this term.

Presented with the opportunity to sign for Palace or Spurs, Ferguson would surely choose the latter.

After all, they reached the Champions League final last term and could offer him first-team football if Danny Rose, Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters leave.

The trio have been linked with exits in recent times and if a pair of right-backs depart, Mourinho will certainly be in the market for someone to fill that gap.

Capable of playing on either side of defence, Ferguson has already earned comparisons to West Ham's Declan Rice in his short career to date.

The player's manager at West Brom, Slaven Bilic, said last September: "Nathan reminds me of Declan Rice.

"He is only 18 on paper. But in his mind, I don’t know, is he 25 or 27, he is a kid but only a kid in a positive way."

In terms of their ability to tackle, there are certainly similarities to be drawn. So far this term, Ferguson has made a mightily impressive 2.4 tackles per game in comparison to Rice's three per match.

For context, the West Brom defender's tackling stats would put him fourth out of every squad member at Tottenham.

At just £4m, he'd be a snip for the north London side.
