EA finally confirm that a new Skate game is in development

After 10 years, Skate is officially returning!

Ladies and gentlemen, a new Skate game has finally been confirmed by Electronic Arts.

It's been 10 years in the making, but it's finally happening, with EA confirming the news during last night's EA Play Live event.

During the promotional event - which was delayed by a week due to the 'Black Lives Matter movement - the company revealed the new Skate will be coming to consoles very soon.

Naturally, very few details about the game were revealed and a trailer for the up coming game wasn't released either.

Instead we got creative director Cuz Parry and game director Deran Chung confirming the massive news from the comfort of their own homes.

"We've been waiting years to make the right game, at the right time, with the right idea," Chung explains in the video posted by EA.

Gamers have been desperate for a new Skate game for years after the success of the franchise on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Skate 3 was released in 2010 and was a massive hit, but after the closure of EA Black Box in 2013 - the division of the company that created the game - it looked unlikely that fans' wishes for a new instalment of the franchise would be granted.

But in a dramatic turn of events, they have and honestly, we could not be happier.

Skate is back!

EA chief studios officer Laura Miele added: "Our vision as a studios leadership team is to listen to player feedback and act on it, so this project has been a priority for us for the past few years."

Well played, EA.

You'll notice we haven't referred to the game as 'Skate 4' yet because the official name of the title has yet to be revealed.

We'll make sure to keep you updated with all the exciting revelations regarding the new and improved Skate in due course!
