Arsenal are only willing to offer a straight swap for AS Roma winger Justin Kluivert, per Corriere della Sera via Sport Witness.

The Gunners are keen on signing the Netherlands international in the summer transfer window.

However, they want the deal to involve a swap with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has spent the season on loan at Roma.

Kluivert has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and registering two assists.

Mkhitaryan, by comparison, has played 17 times, scoring six goals, and the Gunners are hopeful that the two players can swap this summer.

However, the Gunners are not willing to add any cash into the deal, per the report, despite such a transaction not benefitting the Italian club.

Kluivert has a contract that runs until 2023, while Mkhitaryan’s deal in north London expires at the end of next season.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is a nonsensical deal from Arsenal’s point of view.

They clearly don’t really want Mkhitaryan to stay; he’s been allowed to go out on loan this term, earns £180,000-per-week, per Spotrac, and has only ever scored nine goals for the Gunners.

Kluivert, by comparison, is just 21 and is an emerging winger, a player who can only improve, and who is beginning to hit his stride, having started his career at Ajax.

There is plenty more value in the Roma star than in the Armenia international and Arsenal surely know that.

This deal feels nothing short of opportunistic, to be kind, but it could also be regarded as insulting by the Serie A club.

At this point, it’s more likely to be the latter.
