Far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins has been permanently suspended from Twitter.
Hopkins had gained more than one million followers on the social media platform and held controversial views on a variety of topics. Her views had regularly been retweeted by US President Donald Trump.
Earlier today, she had complained that Twitter had removed her blue tick - an indicator that the account belongs to someone of importance.
But now, the company has confirmed that Hopkins’ account has now been suspended permanently.
In a statement, a Twitter spokesman said: "Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us - abuse and hateful conduct have no place on our service and we will continue to take action when our Rules are broken.
"In this case, the account has been permanently suspended for violations of our Hateful Conduct policy."
One of many people that will be celebrating the news is Crystal Palace’s Patrick van Aanholt.
He reacted to the news with a celebratory tweet, writing: “Unified Undisputed champion of Twitter DON'T @ ME #PVADoingBits.”
It’s very much game, set and match, Van Aanholt.
Earlier this month, the Palace full-back was involved in a Twitter spat with Hopkins surrounding the Black Lives Matter protests following the tragic death of George Floyd.
Hopkins initially tweeted: “Today is #whiteoutwednesday. I will shortly be posting a picture of my a**e. Thank you."
To which Van Aanholt replied: "I don't know who she is but WOW...2020 needs to cancel you."
After Hopkins then tweeted a video questioning the integrity of the protests, Van Aanholt hit back again.
"She really likes to talk - how long she been on this nonsense for?" he asked.
Hopkins then responded directly to the Palace star by saying: "Dear @pvanaanholt My name is Katie Hopkins. I am a white Christian Conservative. You May kneel and kiss my ring."
The Dutchman replied by saying: "Dear @KTHopkins My name is Patrick van Aanholt, I am Dutch Black, I'm also Christian (not that colour or Religion has anything to do with it).
"As for your ring you are welcome to come to Selhurst and kiss my big toe ...I'll wait.”
"Can't have racism on twitter like that mate and not be called out,” Van Aanholt later told a fan.
He was right. There is no place for racism like that and Twitter have now finally ‘cancelled’ her.
