David de Gea wasn’t having the greatest 2019/20 campaign before the coronavirus pandemic halted the season.
With Dean Henderson performing brilliantly on loan at Sheffield United, many fans were questioning whether the Spaniard’s long-term future was in doubt at Old Trafford.
On Wednesday, Henderson kept yet another clean sheet as the Blades drew 0-0 to Aston Villa.
As for De Gea, it was his mistake that allowed Steven Bergwijn to put Spurs 1-0 up against United on Friday.
Bergwijn cut inside Harry Maguire and struck the ball powerfully at De Gea, who could only palm the ball into his own net.
Henderson saves those…
It was only earlier in the day that United’s greatest ever goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, spoke about the De Gea/Henderson dilemma.
“We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world at Manchester United,” Schmeichel told The Metro.
“There’s no sign that he’s going to leave the club, why would he? He already had the opportunity a couple of times.
“In the last six years he was player of the year four times. He’s done fantastic but the fact of the matter is there’s only one goalkeeper in the team.
“For every youngster and especially young goalkeepers there is so much that you need to learn when it comes to the toughest end of top football like the Champions League and international tournaments.
“You have to have so much experience and I see no harm in Dean Henderson continuing playing for Sheffield United. Every day he will learn something new.”
