Newcastle's takeover should have no chance of going through, according to The Guardian's Sean Ingle. The reporter took to Twitter late on Friday night to suggest that by the letter of the law, PIF should have no business investing in a Premier League club.

PIF's £300m takeover of the club has been on the cards for the last two months now but controversies surrounding piracy of broadcasts in Saudi Arabia means it's yet to be approved.

Owner and director tests are being run by the Premier League but there is yet to be any form of announcement from the governing body.

Ingle stated earlier this week that an update from the League could come this week, but with only two days left and with Newcastle playing on Sunday, that now feels unlikely.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This is a damning indictment by Ingle, one that should leave Newcastle supporters quaking in their boots.

They have been waiting on tenterhooks for some sort of announcement from the higher-ups but that, so far, has not been forthcoming.

Though, when it does come, it may not be the good news they've all been waiting and praying for.

The World Trade Organisation's report that was released earlier this week may not have mentioned Newcastle specifically, but given the ruler of Saudi Arabia is the chairman of PIF, it doesn't bode well for their ventures into English football.

It was difficult to make heads or tail of the report but the conclusion wasn't overly favourable for the Magpies.

However, as Ingle states, there is lots of pressure on the Premier League to ensure the deal goes through anyway.

George Caulkin claimed a few days ago that PIF had still yet to hear anything themselves so it seems everyone is being kept in the dark about the situation.
