Arsenal and Mesut Ozil are in a contract stand-off as the summer transfer window looms, per ESPN.

The Germany international is said to be determined to remain in north London until the expiration of his deal, which runs until 2021.

The Gunners, though, would like to move the 31-year-old on, given that he currently earns £350,000-per-week at the Emirates.

ESPN states that Arsenal made Ozil available last summer but no club made a move, given the salary he commands.

Ozil has made 18 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring once and registering just two assists.

The 31-year-old wants to fight for his spot in Mikel Arteta’s squad but there are said to be senior players within the squad who believe his salary is too high.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Ozil has been something of an albatross around Arsenal’s neck.

He signed his new contract on January 31st 2018, meaning that 124 weeks have passed since his deal was inked and his salary raised.

That, subsequently, means that he has earned a staggering £43.4 million over that period.

It is little surprise, then, that the Gunners want to move him on.

It would free up a massive amount of both their transfer budget and their wage bill if they could convince a club to take him on.

But, by the same token, it is no real surprise that Ozil is quite happy where he is.

He is earning a genuine fortune and would surely like that to continue; this is likely to be a drawn out saga.
