There was madness in Turkey on Sunday evening as Galatasaray’s title hopes took a major blow with a chaotic 3-3 draw against Gaziantepspor.Six minutes of injury time somehow turned into 15 and in that time, there was a bicycle-kick goal disallowed, an indirect free-kick inside the penalty area and a penalty taken in the 105th minute of the match.Gaziantepspor trailed 3-2 heading into injury time. They thought they had levelled the scores in the 93rd minute when Olarenwaju Kayode connected with a bicycle kick to score.But his goal was ruled out following a lengthy VAR dispute which eventually deemed that a Gaziantepspor player had committed a foul in the build-up.The visitors continued to push for an equaliser and they got a chance when the referee awarded them an indirect free-kick inside Galatasaray’s area for goalkeeper Okan Kocuk’s excessive time-wasting.Kocuk had already received a yellow card for wasting time but was spared another yellow after his second offence.The drama wasn’t over yet. From the free-kick, Gaziantepspor won a penalty when Alexandre Maxim was tripped.Maxim got to his feet and, in the 105th minute, converted the late spot-kick.
Absolutely mental.
Some fans are even suspecting match fixing was at play.
The result leaves Galatasaray in fourth place in the Turkish Super Lig, eight points behind leaders Basaksehir.
It's unlikely they will win a 23rd title, but at least they can claim to have played a part in one of the craziest matches of the year.
