Jamie Redknapp believes that whoever is in charge of Newcastle United next term has 'the chance of a lifetime' to be a success.
Supporters of the Magpies are waiting with bated breath after news broke two months ago about a prospective £300million deal to buy the club.
Amanda Staveley is the figurehead of the Saudi-backed consortium who are said to be leading the charge for the club, but so far there’s been no news of a confirmed deal.
The club are currently waiting on a verdict from the Premier League as to whether the £300million deal can go ahead.
While uncertainty off the pitch continues to mount, matters on the pitch have been much more certain with Steve Bruce guiding the side to the cusp of safety.
With a top half finish in their sights, Redknapp believes that Bruce deserves an opportunity to show that he can be a success - regardless of who the new owners are.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: "“He needs to keep Newcastle United up, first and foremost.
“After that, give Steve Bruce the opportunity to go and spend some money.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to bring some players into the north east.
“This is an incredible football club so whoever gets that job as manager has the chance of a lifetime, as long as the change goes ahead.
“The pressure that Steve Bruce is under – every week before the season started people were saying ‘they’re not going to last’, ‘they’re going to go down’, this team have done so well.
“There’s sides below them who have spent a lot of money.
“I think that he can get more out of some of the players and they’ll be disappointed with the goals that have come from Joelinton, but sometimes you need a year for things to improve.
“Miguel Almiron got better before the stop in play, I’m a big fan of Saint-Maximin.
“I think he’s done a really good job. I get the speculation because it’s modern day football, but he’s done a good job.”
