If Odsonne Edouard departs this summer then it'll represent a huge blow to Celtic's bid to win ten titles in a row.

The Frenchman has been linked with moves to Borussia Dortmund and the Premier League, but the message from Neil Lennon is clear; he wants him to stay at Parkhead.

And who can blame him? Edouard bagged 27 goals this term on the way to winning the club's Player of the Season award.

He is without a doubt the Hoops' best player so if he does indeed walk through the exit door, a new striker will definitely be required.

Lyndon Dykes has been the subject of interest in recent weeks, but there has been a lengthy saga developing between another forward and the Bhoys.

That happens to be when it comes to Ivan Toney. Peterborough boss Barry Fry claimed two weeks ago that he was fielding interest from Celtic and Rangers for his prized forward.

Darren Ferguson then confirmed he could be allowed to leave. Though, after initial £15m claims were made, Celtic then thought they could potentially only pay £5m for his services.

However, the saga has now taken another twist, with Celtic being dealt a further blow. After news emerged that Peterborough had rejected a £4m bid for Toney from New York Red Bulls, fresh claims revealed Posh were searching for £10m.

As far as the Hoops' plans to sign him go, this is a considerable setback, with £5m being lumped on top of what they were hoping to pay.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

If Edouard departs for a large fee then Celtic shouldn't have any troubles signing Toney for a price of around £10m.

However, as things stand, they'd have to break their transfer record to sign the former Newcastle forward.

Edouard himself cost the Hoops just £9m and he came through the academy at PSG. It just goes to show how much a striker in the English game cost nowadays.

For a player currently plying his trade in League One, the fee Peterborough want is truly remarkable. However, at the same time, it's hardly surprising.

Having scored 26 goals this season, Toney is sure to attract plenty of interest and considering he's one of Peterborough's most important players, they can easily command a large sum of money.

If the likes of Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer leave, it's hard to envisage £10m being spent on Toney, especially when Lennon is also keen on keeping Mohamed Elyounoussi, a player valued at a similar price.

It would be quite something if Celtic broke their transfer record twice in the same window.
