Sammy Guevara has been suspended by AEW for comments he made about WWE star Sasha Banks in 2016.

The now-prominent wrestler was speaking on a podcast after working backstage at an event four years ago.

"Bro, Sasha Banks... oh my God," he said.

"When I was at the WWE the other week I wanted to just go f****** rape that woman."

Guevara has since apologised for his 'stupid, inappropriate and extremely offensive comments' and AEW has suspended him without pay until further notice.

Banks has also since confirmed she's personally spoken to Guevara.

"He apologised and we had an open discussion," the WWE star said in a statement, posted on Twitter.

"Words like the comments he made, jokingly or not, have absolutely no place in our society!

"I don’t condone or tolerate this kind of behaviour. What one thinks is just a side comment can have a massive impact on someone else’s life and can send the wrong message.

"We have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and the words we say, and I hope this situation shows him that.

"I hope from this point on, in order for growth and change within our community to take place, we all can continue to have these conversations.

Banks has spoken to Guevara about his comments

"No person, man, woman or child, should ever be subjected to a feeling of fear, or any unsafe environment.

"We all have to do better not just for ourselves, but for generations to come."

Guevara is the latest wrestler to be called out for misconduct amid the #SpeakingOut movement.

A number of wrestlers have been called out this week

In the past week, a number of female figures in the industry have been shining a light on the issues of sexual harassment and assault they face in the workplace.

Thanks to them and the swift action taken to remove certain individuals, pro wrestling will change for the better.
