Charlotte Flair is reportedly set to take an 'extended break' from WWE that could see her absent until Royal Rumble season next year.

The Queen was written off RAW on Monday night as Nia Jax attacked her backstage, injuring her arm.

WWE then posted a storyline update that reads:

"Charlotte Flair is being evaluated for an injury following the ruthless attack by Nia Jax on RAW.

"While the specifics of The Queen's injury have not been fully determined, it is believed she may have suffered a potential collarbone fracture."

Flair has arguably been the company's top star since WrestleMania, appearing on all three brands - RAW, SmackDown and NXT.

However, according to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, she's now going on an extended break from WWE, taking 'some personal time and having some surgery'.

It's believed Charlotte will return in time for next year's Royal Rumble in January, but if a good story pops up before then - around Survivor Series - she'd be open to an earlier return.

Charlotte could be out until the Royal Rumble

According to talkSPORT's source, there is a 'zero percent chance Charlotte returns for SummerSlam'.

Others have confirmed that The Queen is due a break and feels she's in need of one.

That's hardly a surprise, considering she's been performing on all three brands in recent months.

Flair has been carrying WWE since WrestleMania

However, with Vince McMahon lacking star talent right now, it's unclear if he'll push the panic button and bring Flair back as soon as she's healed from surgery - which is likely to be around September.

The way Charlotte was written off TV is also interesting to note, as it was Jax who 'injured' her on RAW.

While that was all part of the storyline, Jax has a history of hurting opponents and has been getting stick from fans recently.

Flair was injured by Nia Jax on RAW

Having her put Flair on the shelf will only add to that heat and WWE decided to go with that angle after apparently debating a storyline that would see Asuka injure her instead.
