Contract talk has been dominating the Arsenal landscape recently.

For the Gunners, it appears as though nothing is going right. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka have just a year left on their current deals, while back to back defeats against Manchester City and Brighton won't have helped their cause.

On the injury front, things aren't going well either. Pablo Mari is out for the season, Bernd Leno is facing a lengthy lay-off and Granit Xhaka is out too.

Little appears to be going well for Mikel Arteta but fortunately, games are coming thick and fast with Arsenal playing Southampton and Sheffield United this week.

Once again, they will be away trips, something the north London outfit notoriously struggle with.

Fortunately, Arsenal have received some fairly good news in recent days with fresh contract news emerging out of the club.

It was thought that he'd leave the club, but one player has now extended his terms for at least another season.

The player in question happens to be goalkeeper Matt Macey.

It was widely thought that his contract expired at the end of the month, but fortunately for fans of the club, journalist Nick Ames revealed that recently he put pen to paper on an extension.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

This couldn't have come at a better time for Arsenal.

That isn't a statement usually heard when it comes to your third-choice goalkeeper but after Leno's horrific injury against Brighton, they'll need Macey in and around the first-team.

Emi Martinez will deputise for the German while he's out of action but Macey will be able to provide willing back-up if required.

The colossal 6 foot 7 stopper is now 25-years-old but is still yet to make his Premier League debut for the Gunners.

During his time in north London, he's faced three separate loan spells and has played just two times for the senior side.

His tally for the U23s stands at a considerable 63 outings with the 'keeper struggling to ever make the breakthrough.

However, after signing a new deal, he could finally get a chance if Leno is out for a long period.

It remains to be seen whether Martinez continues in goal during the cup competitions but if he doesn't, Macey could finally earn a chance to impress.

It's an unlikely tale for the Bath-born goalkeeper but for once, he's actually required at Arsenal.
