Manchester United could have money to spend this summer, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils have aspirations of challenging for the Premier League title next term but face an uphill battle if they're to rival Manchester City and Liverpool.

Doing so would probably mean spending huge sums of money in the transfer market - something that the Man United boss is not against if it's for the right player.

A number of players have already been linked with a move to Manchester United, including Jadon Sancho.

The Borussia Dortmund starlet is said to be the top target for Solskjaer's side as he seeks a return to the Premier League.

A deal could cost in the region of £100million, and discussing the club's transfer plans, Solskjaer said that he'd be happy to spend big if it meant getting the right player.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Solskjaer said: "If there are any good deals to be made and players who can make us better, of course we might have to spend some money on that.

"But the squad is great to work with and it's moving in the right direction.

"We're still not where we want to be, close enough to challenge for the Premier League trophy but we take one step at a time.

"Obviously City and Liverpool the last couple of seasons have put the standard where it should be to win the league.

"Hopefully now we can challenge for the Europa League, FA Cup this season, top four and then let's see how much we can invest for next season."

What a signing this would be for Manchester United.

Jadon Sancho is no 'flavour of the month' player, he's a prospect who has the potential to become one of the best players in world football.

What he has done since moving to Borussia Dortmund is hugely impressive, and if he can take those performances into the new season then he's got to be considered as one of the top 10 players on the planet.

If United can secure such a signing it will be a massive signal of intent that they plan to take themselves back to the top of the game.

Whether that can be done remains to be seen, but if they can pull it off then they'll certainly be much closer to their former glory.
