Frank Lampard has described Kai Havertz as 'a top player' as discussions over his future continue.

Speculation has been building over the future of the 20-year-old who is said to be attracting the interest of clubs such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Daily Mail reported that the Blues are looking to tie up a move for the Bayer Leverkusen skipper as they look to take a proactive approach in the summer market.

It's claimed that a move could cost in the region of £75million - a significant outlay considering the early business that Chelsea have already completed.

Given the fact that the Blues have already completed the signing of Timo Werner, it remains to be seen whether the club will have the funds to pursue another big-money deal.

Few can argue with the quality of Kai Havertz - least of all Frank Lampard - however the Chelsea head coach insisted that no formal offer had been made or the Leverkusen starlet.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lampard said: "He's a top player but we're certainly not going to comment on players at other teams.

"It cannot be our focus. No bids have gone in."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The transfer window isn't even open and we're already gripped by what is going on.

Chelsea have been quickest out of the blocks with two huge signings all-but wrapped up, and it seems that they aren't finished yet.

In fact, they're only just getting started.

If they can tie up a deal for Kai Havertz that would one heck of a coup - especially if they are beating some of Europe's biggest clubs to the punch.

Should a move for Kai Havertz materialise, Chelsea will have an attacking line which will be the envy of most sides in the Premier League.

With Callum Hudson-Odoi already at the club, and with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech on the way, it means that the Blues will undoubtedly be one of the more entertaining sides to watch next term.

Add Havertz into the mix and this could be a huge boost.
