Leeds United have removed a cardboard cutout of Osama bin Laden from the stands at Elland Road after fans spotted the former al-Qaeda leader among images of supporters.Without fans in attendance, Leeds offered fans the chance to have themselves as cardboard cutouts in the seats at their stadium for a fee of £25.But eagle-eyed supporters spotted a cutout of Bin Laden among the crowd.Unbelievable.Fans suspected whether the original image was photoshopped before Twitter user @AllLoveLeeds noticed that his ‘crowdie’ was positioned next to Bin Laden.“Thanks @lufc I’m next to Bin bloody Laden!!!”, he wrote on Twitter.
To make things worse, the supporter thought his cutout would be next to his son’s - not Bin Laden.
Comedian and Top Gear presenter Paddy McGuinness joked: “Nothing surprises me anymore in 2020? Leeds United – Hold my pint.”
How on earth does something like that happen?!
The Yorkshire Evening Post confirmed they have spoken to the club, who reacted by removing the Bin Laden image.
Leeds, currently fighting for promotion to the Premier League, said that “checks are in place to ensure there are no more offensive images” in the stands ahead of Saturday’s Championship game against Fulham.
For their sake, we hope they’re right.
