Arsenal have stolen headlines in recent days.

They have given defender David Luiz a new deal, as well as extending Dani Ceballos’ loan deal and handing new contracts to both Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares.

The tweet announcing the news has been retweeted, at the time of writing, just over 9,000 times and liked just over 17,000 times.

The majority of the replies, perhaps understandably, are full of schadenfreude and memes, after the club’s seemingly ridiculous decision.

However, they could be allowing one man to leave this summer, even if Luiz will be sticking around.

Greek outlet SDNA claims that Olympiacos have been in contact with the Gunners as they look to lay the groundwork for a deal this summer.

Mohamed Elneny is viewed as a possible target for the Greek giants, as they look to replace outgoing midfielder Mady Camara.

Contact is said to have been initiated between the parties and the Gunners are reportedly keen to move Elneny on.

He has spent the season on loan at Besiktas and was last seen in a red shirt on the final day of last season, playing 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over Burnley.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This has to be the start of something for Arsenal.

They need to clear the decks of the deadwood this summer, and ensure that they free up some space in their squad.

The Egypt international has never really been up to speed with English football, struggling with the pace and the physicality of the game.

A move to Besiktas was the first step to shifting him from their bank balance, and now it seems as though it’ll be happening soon enough.

Be it either Olympiacos or Besiktas, his future almost certainly lies away from north London.
