The duo know each other well from Orta's days at Boro but after being gifted a golden opportunity to sign him, Leeds' Director of Football turned it down and rejected Ayala.
The 29-year-old is out of contract next month and is searching for a new home. It doesn't look as though it'll be in Yorkshire, however.

The former Liverpool man has only completed 73.4% of his passes in 2019/20, a tally that's some way off the ball-playing White.
In comparison, the Brighton loanee has registered a pass success rate of 85.3%, thriving in a side that likes to play out from the back.
On this evidence, it's just as well Orta rejected the chance to sign Ayala.
