Liverpool are finally champions of England again.After 30 years of waiting, the Reds have done it. For the first time in their history, they’ve been crowned Premier League champions.It probably wasn’t the perfect way to end their drought. Doing it on the pitch in front of their fans at Anfield would have been the ideal scenario.But the coronavirus pandemic didn’t do too much to halt the celebrations.Liverpool players and staff gathered at a hotel to watch the Chelsea vs Manchester City match and videos soon emerged of them enjoying the moment they were crowned champions.Meanwhile, footage started showing a few people gathering outside Anfield to celebrate their triumph.But before you knew it, thousands of supporters were outside their side’s stadium as fireworks, flares and smoke lit the sky up red.
It probably wasn’t the most sensible thing to do during the coronavirus pandemic but we’re sure fans were trying to social distance where possible.
However, on the same day that images emerged of the rubbish left on Bournemouth beach following the hottest day of the year, we saw a similar sight outside Anfield this morning.
As Liverpool fans partied long into the early hours, the amount of glass bottles and rubbish left on the streets was pretty disgusting.
Enjoy your celebrations, yes. But don’t leave the streets like that.
Following the celebrations, Assistant Chief Constable of Merseyside Police Rob Carden said: "I would like to congratulate Liverpool FC on deservedly winning the Premier League title, and thank the thousands of Liverpool fans across Merseyside who celebrated at home, as they have for the previous games played behind closed doors.
"The overwhelming majority of fans have recognised the fact that now is not the time to gather together to celebrate, and chose to mark the event safely. They are a credit to this city.
"Unfortunately, as we have seen throughout the lockdown period, not everyone adhered to the regulations in place. Although the vast majority of celebrations were good natured, a large number of people chose to gather outside the stadium.
"In the days ahead, we urge supporters to do the right thing and celebrate safely with members of your household and in your social bubble. By doing this you keep yourself, your family, friends and neighbours safe.
"We understand people will feel jubilant that Liverpool has secured the league title for the first time in 30 years, and the time will come when fans can return to Anfield to applaud the team and to celebrate their achievement.”
