Edge has revealed photos of his gruesome torn tricep surgery, to prove his injury is real and not part of a storyline.

The Rated-R Superstar faced off with Randy Orton at Backlash earlier this month in what was billed as 'The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever'.

Despite most fans being sceptical about the tagline, the bout actually went down very well and will be remembered as one of the best of the year.

But there was one major blow - Edge's injury.

WWE confirmed shortly after the Backlash PPV that he'd torn his triceps and will be out for a considerable amount of time - it's unlikely he'll wrestle again this year.

As is the nature of professional wrestling, some fans were questioning the real severity of the legend's injury.

Could it be possible WWE were overplaying this injury to further a storyline? In this case, definitely not.

Responding to critics, Edge has shared gruesome photos of his recent surgery. Warning - they aren't for the faint-hearted. If you want to look - check them out below:

This is just the latest reminder that wrestling - although it's scripted - is far from fake. Serious injuries happen and Edge is the latest to suffer.

"Some folks have asked if my injury is part of a storyline. It's not. I wish it was. Here's what a torn triceps looks like. Elbow Tartare. Now, nose to the grindstone," he captioned the Instagram post.

Ouch. To rub salt into the wounds (no pun intended) Edge's injury could have been avoided.

GiveMeSport reported earlier this month that he tore his tricep while WWE was re-shooting part of his match against Orton.

Edge was injured re-doing a spot

Both Superstars actually made it through the entire match without any problems, with Edge only suffering his injury re-doing a certain spot.

Now, because of WWE pushing for the 'greatest match ever', the Rated-R Superstar will be sidelined for months. It's a real shame.
