Liverpool’s business is picking up.

The Reds were crowned Premier League champions earlier this week after Manchester City were beaten by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, going down 2-1.

With seven games of the season remaining, they sit 23 points clear of Pep Guardiola’s men, and have only lost once all term, in a game against Watford at Vicarage Road.

They have 21 points left to fight for, meaning they could end the campaign with a total of 107 points; topping City’s record of 100 points.

They are already lining up their business ahead of the summer transfer window and it appears that a priority has been keeping players at the club.

Football Insider reports that the Reds are in talks with midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as they look to tie him down to a long-term contract.

The former Newcastle United star’s current deal expires at the end of next season but the report states that talks between the two parties are going well.

The piece claims that he is set to stay for another four years, having joined in 2016.

Wijnaldum has made 40 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals; he has missed just one Premier League game this season, sitting out the 3-0 win over AFC Bournemouth.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Wijnaldum is an excellent performer.

Since his move to Liverpool, he has established himself as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the league.

Per WhoScored, he averages one shot per game in the Premier League, 1.1 dribbles, one tackle, and a passing accuracy of 90.9%.

This is a complete player who has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s most effective assets throughout the campaign.

Handing him a new contract would be a just reward for a new Premier League champion.
