It’s been a tough 2020 for Ronaldinho. The legendary Brazilian footballer was arrested on March 5 in Paraguay for allegedly trying to enter the country on a fake passport alongside his business-manager brother Roberto de Assis. They both spent 32 days in prison before their release in April. They were due to spend up to six months behind bars but Ronaldinho reportedly paid a £1.3 million bond. He even managed to win his side a six-a-side tournament whilst in prison. He’s since been placed on house arrest in the South American country while they await a trial. But despite all of that - and not playing professionally since 2015 - Ronaldinho wants to return to playing football. And if that isn’t sensational enough, he wants to play for Diego Maradona’s side. The Argentine legend is manager Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and, according to reports in Argentina, Ronaldinho is considering coming out of retirement to play for him.Reports even say that Maradona is keen to include Ronaldinho in his squad after being told the former Barcelona man is wanting to put his boots back on.

After leaving prison, Ronaldinho spoke out about his experience.

"I never imagined that something like this could happen to me, it was a big blow," Ronaldinho.

"I came to Paraguay to launch an online casino and a book. Everything we do is under the contracts that are managed by my brother.

"We were absolutely surprised to learn that the documents we had were not legal. From that moment on, our intention was always to collaborate with the courts to clarify the facts.

"I always have my faith, I always pray for things to go well and hopefully soon all this will come to an end. All my life I have tried to reach the highest professional level and bring joy to people with my football.

"My time in prison? They have welcomed me with kindness: playing football, signing autographs and photos…that is part of my life."
