It's been widely reported that Napoli will be selling the 29-year-old defender and it seems City are now the favourites to seal his coveted signature.

On the face of it, the signing of the Senegalese could potentially galvanise Guardiola's team in a similar manner to how Virgil van Dijk did at Liverpool.

Every other area of City's side is functioning as well as ever, but their defence needs a serious reboot.

Fernandinho has his flaws at centre-back, while both John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are simply not good enough at the moment to warrant a starting role at a top team.
