Newcastle will entertain Manchester City in their first quarter-final for 14 years today. For one day only, the potential £300m takeover will be put on the back burner and forgotten about for 90 minutes. It'll be a rare occasion, but today is likely to be all about the football, rather than money and the firepower that could arrive at St James' Park.Newcastle are so far unbeaten since returning from the break and they'll hope to continue that against a City side who could be reeling from losing their grasp on the Premier League to Liverpool. The Magpies will go into the game as the underdogs, but we've seen plenty of FA Cup upsets throughout the years to believe Steve Bruce's men could win.Despite football being the most important thing on Sunday, there is a mini takeover update to bring you.As is customary, The Athletic's George Caulkin provided some insight into how the finances were being handled in PIF's bid to buy the club.11 weeks ago Mohammed bin Salman submitted a bid to buy the club from Mike Ashley but that is still yet to happen.AshleyAnd it would appear, that none of that money has been transferred to Ashley yet as they still await news from the Premier League to confirm whether PIF can take over the club.Taking to Twitter, Caulkin replied to a fan and stated:

The dreaded sentence - 'both sides are still waiting to hear' - has been thrown around for what feels like forever.

Nearly three months ago the takeover was first rumoured to be happening but yet here we are, no clearer on whether Newcastle will be Mike Ashley's in the foreseeable future.

It's thought that Saudi Arabia's wealth could bring a host of riches to the north-east of England, with players like Kai Havertz and Philippe Coutinho being linked.

For now, that seems like a distant dream. If Ashley stays and the finances don't come into the club, they can look forward to what could possibly be a rather mediocre summer.
