Ivan Toney is going to be a name that you hear a lot of this summer.

After securing a dream move to Newcastle United, it seemed that the young striker had made it at the highest level.

However after leaving St James' Park for Peterborough United, it was up to Toney to go and prove himself as the striker that he was tipped to be.

Fast-forward two years and the 24-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the EFL.

After scoring 26 goals this term, it seems that the time is right for the striker to secure another big move - something that has alerted a number of clubs to his availability.

Toney has attracted the attention of Celtic, Rangers, Leeds United and West Brom, however a notable new name has now been added to the list.

According to the Daily Record, Premier League side Watford are now said to be keen.

The Hornets are battling to avoid relegation to the Championship, but will arguably be the best-equipped financially to appeal to the striker.

As well as being capable of challenge for a place in the starting line-up at Vicarage Road, the club's relative locality to Peterbrough could prove to be appealing should the striker feel settled in his current domestic surroundings.

As well as playing in Peterborough at present, Toney was born in Northampton which again could be a big pull for the player, with Hertfordshire likely to mean that he wouldn't need to uproot himself and his family.

Add into that the opportunity to play in the Premier League and you start to see why Watford could be a really appealing option.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

There's no doubt that Ivan Toney is capable of playing at a higher level.

Having dominated League One this term, the former Newcastle United man is appears to be more than ready to step up.

Whether he's ready for a move to the Premier League is up for debate, but Toney could certainly do a job for a promotion-chasing Championship club, or a top of the table Scottish side like Celtic or Rangers.

The only stumbling block is that £15million price tag which may well prove to be troublesome.
