Victor Orta has been a huge part of Leeds United's success in recent season.

The Spaniard arrived at Elland Road in 2017 as director of football and has been instrumental in the club's recent success in the transfer market.

Reports in The Independent have suggested that Orta is a contender for the Technical Director role with RB Leipzig in Germany, however according to The Athletic's Phil Hay, the former Middlesbrough man is set to stick around in West Yorkshire.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “It could be that Leipzig are interested but Leeds and Orta insist to us that he won’t be going.

“He wants another year here and he wants a season in the Premier League.

“He was kicking every ball in the director’s box today (against Fulham).”

Noel Whelan also gave his opinion on the speculation, suggesting that Orta is right to want to see the club make it to the Premier League.

He told Football Insider: "Well look, if he’s going to start recruiting for his team for the Premier League, having not been there for a long, long time, it’s a job hard to walk away from because you want to be there for that journey.

“Victor has brought in some players that have really made the difference, he’s brought in some that haven’t – that’s the chance you take when you’re a football club, some work out, some don’t.

“We’ve got to say, based on the signings that have come in so far and the acquisitions at Leeds United, they’ve been very successful and are why we’re here at this point, pushing towards the Premier League.

“We can’t say he hasn’t done his job right. People will be looking at him thinking what can he do for their club? It would be difficult to walk away from that opportunity to recruit players to be a successful Premier League side.

“I would have thought Victor, who seems to love the club, I’ve seen his passion when Leeds United are playing, I can’t see that one happening, I think he would relish the opportunity to get into the club to be a Premier League outfit.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Leeds United will be delighted that Victor Orta is set to stay at the club.

He's been key to the club's recent success and been a massive part in Leeds United's journey to the cusp of the Premier League.

Subject to securing promotion, supporters will be hoping that he can use his contacts to aid the club this summer as they prepare for life in the top flight next term.

If he can do that then you'd like to think that Leeds have what it takes to consolidate their place in the Premier League.
