Guti’s tweet goes viral after Karim Benzema’s stunning no-look assist v Espanyol

Karim Benzema produced one of the most remarkable assists of the season for Real Madrid against Espanyol on Sunday evening.

Madrid were the overwhelming favourites to win this top-versus-bottom La Liga clash, but Zinedine Zidane’s side found the fixture more difficult than they probably would have anticipated.

The visitors sealed a narrow 1-0 victory at the RCDE Stadium and had Benzema to thank for the three points.

The veteran French striker, on the stroke of half-time, produced a stunning no-look back-heeled nutmeg to set up Casemiro.

Casemiro was left with a relatively straightforward tap-in from just inside the six-yard.

Take a bow, Karim!

The minds of many football fans were immediately cast back to 2010.

That was the year that another Real Madrid player, Guti, produced a very similar assist against Deportivo La Coruna.

Here’s Guti’s famous assist…

Note that Benzema was the player Guti set up for that particular goal - how weird is that?

Who did it better: Guti or Benzema? We’ll let you decide.

Shortly after Benzema’s assist, Guti posted the following tweet, which has gone viral…

"It was a very good play, but the most important thing is the goal afterwards," Benzema said, per Marca, when asked about the backheel at full time.

"Casemiro took it well."We're very happy.

"[The backheel] is how I see football.

"I knew Casemiro was coming behind me."

Casemiro, meanwhile, told the same Spanish newspaper: "The goal is Karim’s.

”We're used to the quality that he has and the quality with which he plays.

"I had to celebrate with him because the credit goes to him.

"We know his quality and that's why I called for the ball - because I knew he could find me."

Who knows, if the trend continues perhaps we should expect a no-look back-heel assist from Casemiro in 2030.
