After winning the Champions League last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to strengthen their squad the following summer.
The Reds didn’t make a single first-team signing with only Takumi Minamino arriving in January for £7 million.
Now, after winning the Premier League, will Klopp resist the urge to improve his squad once again?
Of course, keeping Klopp and the star players is probably more important than any new arrivals this summer. But surely they won’t go another summer without spending a penny.
After refusing to take the plunge on Timo Werner - a player they were very interested in - and allowing him to join Chelsea, Liverpool supporters may fear the worst.
However, there’s still a chance that the Reds make a signing or two this summer. In fact, they could still make a huge statement purchase.
The hashtag #Mbappe2020 has been used by fans in recent months albeit more jokingly than seriously. With Liverpool switching from New Balance to Nike ahead of next season, Kopites have suggested the Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe could make the move to Anfield.
But despite the 21-year-old being one of the best players in world football, he might not even get in the starting XI. That’s according to former goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar.
Klopp’s side boast the formidable front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino working together brilliantly to defend from the front and score for fun.
But Grobbelaar suggests Mbappe might struggle to dislodge one of them.
"Well, if he comes to Anfield he's going to have to prove his worth up front for sure. And that's only if and when he comes," Grobbelaar told Stats Perform News, per Goal.
"We do not know what the circumstances are. It will be up to Klopp and FSG who will reveal something probably in the new season.
"But whoever comes to Anfield, as you see with [Takumi] Minamino, he's going to have to improve a hell of a lot more to get into the side.
"The squad is brilliant at this stage, it's up to FSG and the Klopp advisers that are going to determine whether those players go or remain. I, for one, think they will be going because they want first-team football.
"Listen, at this moment in time every player wants to come and play for Liverpool because we're the Premiership title holders and anybody who doesn't must go to see the doctor very quickly, because we are the best team and we will be the best team for so many years."

Can you imagine Liverpool spending about £200 million Mbappe and then only making him sit on the bench behind Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino?
Not a chance.
