Sadio Mane still hasn't lost a Premier League game at Anfield for Liverpool

Sunday marked four years since Liverpool splashed £34 million on Sadio Mane.

At the time, plenty of Liverpool fans didn’t know what to make of the signing. Yes, he was an exciting player and had been impressive at Southampton but was he really worth that much money?

Answer: Yes. Yes he was worth every penny.

Since that move back in 2016, Mane has been sensational for the Reds.

In 163 appearances, Mane has notched 78 goals and is one of the club’s most important players.

His performances have helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Super Cup, World Cup Club and now the Premier League in the last 12 months.

But there’s a stat that perhaps epitomises his importance even better.

That’s because Mane is still yet to lose a league match at Anfield since arriving.

Liverpool's last defeat at home in the Premier League was against Crystal Palace in April 2017. However, Mane wasn’t in the squad that day because of a knee injury.

And they haven’t lost since.

It just goes to show the difference Mane makes to this side.

Mohamed Salah hogs most of the headlines as he usually outscores Mane, while Roberto Firmino gets plenty of plaudits for his work-rate and understanding of Jurgen Klopp’s system. Meanwhile, Mane perhaps goes under the radar slightly.

But there’s an argument to be had that he’s Liverpool’s most important attacker.

After all, with Salah and Firmino out injured it was Mane who led the line during THAT incredible 4-0 victory against Barcelona last season. Despite not scoring, he was a constant nightmare for Barca's defence, creating space for Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum to take advantage.

Fans will mention the likes of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk or Salah when asked to name Klopp’s best signing at Liverpool but surely Mane is right up there.
