Lionel Messi is stuck on 699 career goals.

The Argentine has gone three matches without scoring as he looks to reach an incredible career milestone.

He also made headlines for seemingly ignoring Barca’s assistant manager Eder Sarabia during the 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo at the weekend. That draw has given the title advantage to Real Madrid.

With ‘only’ 21 goals in 27 La Liga appearances this season, it hasn’t been the greatest campaign by Messi’s standards.

It was only six months ago that he was lifting his record-breaking sixth Ballon d’Or but what are the chances of making it seven in December?

Well, each week, Goal produce their ‘Ballon d'Or 2020 Power Rankings’ as they rank which 20 players are most likely to get their hands on the Ballon d’Or this year.

And Messi has dropped to fourth. The significance of that is that Cristiano Ronaldo is now ahead of him in second.

After making a slow start following the return of football after the coronavirus pandemic, Ronaldo has now scored in his last two Serie A appearances as Juve close in on a Serie A title.

If he can inspire the Old Lady to Champions League glory, Ronaldo could well be levelled it up with Messi at 6-6 in terms of Ballon d’Ors wins.

But the current favourite? Robert Lewandowski, of course.
