Steven Gerrard's tenure with Rangers at Ibrox has hardly gone to plan so far.

The former Liverpool player was brought in because of his winning mentality but he is yet to deliver any silverware to the club.

As far as getting back on level terms with Celtic, Rangers are quite some way behind.

The Gers finished a considerable 13 points beneath the Hoops and they were essentially powerless in their attempts to prevent nine titles in a row.

Who they sign over the summer will be vitally important in stopping ten successive league crowns.

Rangers have already wrapped up a few additions, luring Ianis Hagi to Glasgow on a permanent basis and also sealing the signature of goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin on a free transfer.

However, a fellow signing, one they've been linked with in recent days could come at a considerable cost.

Claims were made on Monday afternoon that a player in Italy was taking the interest of Rangers.

That happens to be 20-year-old winger Andreas Skov Olsen, a player who only moved to Serie A last season.

The wonderkid scored a considerable 26 goals in 2018/19 and is currently valued at £6m following a season where he rather flopped.

Moving from Danish football to a top-five league wasn't going to be easy and he found that, scoring just once this term.

However, the Gers are very much interested in ending his nightmare stay in Bologna.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Given that 20 clubs, including Tottenham, were interested in Olsen just a year ago, this would be a considerable coup for Rangers and Gerrard.

The youngster has had a rough season in Italy but there is no doubting his talent. 26 goals and six assists last campaign is a mightily impressive record, especially for someone so young.

Yet, for a player not even playing up front, it's even more eye-catching.

The 20-year-old usually plays on the right wing but can also appear as a second striker and on the left flank. Though, it's on the right where he causes the most damage.

Olsen has admitted in the past that he admires Arjen Robben, a fellow left-footer who used to cause carnage when cutting in from the right-hand side.

Robben

The Dane did the same when playing for Nordsjaelland last season and has an enormous amount of potential.

He's the type of player that could be the difference between Celtic and Rangers, especially when one considers the struggle for goals the Gers had in 2020.

Alfredo Morelos has scored only once this calendar year which tells you all you need to know.
