Lionel Messi has just scored his 700th career goal against Atletico Madrid with a Panenka penalty. The sixth-time Ballon d’Or winner notched his 630th Barcelona goal to go with the 70 strikes he’s scored for Argentina.During those 700 goals, Messi has smashed all sorts of incredible goalscoring records. In 2012, he fired a ridiculous 91 goals for club and country in just 69 matches.During the 2011/12 season, Messi scored 50 goals in La Liga. FIFTY! He got himself on the scoresheet 73 times that season - breaking the record for most goals in a club season. He's also the only player to score more than 40 goals in ten consecutive seasons which he's managed until this season. He's won the most European Golden Shoe awards with six and is the all-time top scorer in Europe’s big five leagues.Messi was sporting a new look against Atleti, with short sides as he looked to end his drought of three matches without a goal.

It's been a tough few weeks for Messi, who has seen his side relinquish their lead at the top of the table as the Argentine made headlines for seemingly ignoring assistant manager, Eder Sarabia, against Celta Vigo.

But now after reaching 700 goals, Messi will be hoping this is a turning point for his side as they look to catch Real - who they trail by two points.
