Leeds United are in with a superb chance of finally reaching the promised land of the Premier League.

The Whites beat Fulham in terrific fashion at the weekend and regardless of the result against Luton on Tuesday, were in a fantastic place to go up.

A defeat against Cardiff would have been enough to worry some at Elland Road but for once, it doesn't look as though Leeds will bottle things.

Famous last words, of course, but they are incredibly well-placed with such little time in the season remaining.

If they go up, they could have plenty of riches to spend in the summer window and on Tuesday, a new target emerged for the Yorkshire side.

Leeds have been linked with names including Juan Foyth and Danny Loader, but it's another Reading player who's taking their fancy.

A report from Football Insider claimed United were looking at signing former Chelsea midfielder John Swift.

Swift

The source claims that Victor Orta and co are planning to raid the Royals this summer and Swift is right at the front of their plans.

It's thought that Reading could be open to selling one of their prized assets due to the financial trouble the club are currently going through.

Leeds' pursuit is irrespective of the division they play in next season and a £3.6m fee could be enough if Transfermarkt's valuations are to be believed.

Swift

The Whites' hierarchy believes Swift has what it takes to perform in the Premier League, as well as the second-tier.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Despite Reading's struggles this term, Swift is easily one of the most talented midfielders in the Championship.

That's something that Marcelo Bielsa is no stranger too either, holding the Chelsea academy graduate in high regard.

Speaking after Leeds played Reading earlier this year, the Argentine commented: "Swift is a great player, I value him a lot.

"He is a player who appears suddenly in attack and the same in transition between defence and attack, but especially when he passes from the defence to the attack."

With that in mind, it's hardly a surprise that Leeds are now looking to bring him to Elland Road.

Swift has ten assists in the Championship this term, as well as scoring five goals. It's a tally that puts him above everyone at Leeds and he is clearly a player who would do well if he made the switch.

If you consider Pablo Hernandez is now 35 and with Mateusz Klich also approaching his 30s, signing someone like Swift who is just 24, would be astute.

He has the ability to be the creative heir to both of their thrones if he arrives.
