Jean-Kevin Augustin's future with Leeds United is very much up in the air.
The striker arrived on loan from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window and was tipped to make a big impression at Elland Road.
However the 23-year-old has been limited to just three cameo appearances since moving to West Yorkshire.
The club announced on Wednesday that Augustin's loan spell would not be extended to the end of the season, casting doubt over the permanent deal that was placed into the agreement.
But with his future up for debate, former Leeds United stopper Paul Robinson has suggested that the club would be better served moving for Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki.
Valued at £7.2million by Transfermarkt, Pukki has scored 11 goals during the Canaries' first season back in the Premier League, but according to the former stopper, it's his all-round play that could be appealing to Marcelo Bielsa.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I don’t think we’ll see Augustin again in a Leeds shirt. The deal expired on Tuesday, he’s injured again and we don’t even know if he’s in the country or not. We don’t know where he is.
“But he’s certainly not going to play a part this season. There’s no place for him in the squad and you don’t want any players in there that aren’t 100%.
“I still think Pukki would be a smart signing given how Leeds play under Marcelo Bielsa, with one striker.
“Pukki’s work rate is phenomenal. He’s not just become a bad striker overnight because he’s not scoring.
“He’s proved he can score goals and you have to look at the team that he’s playing for at the moment and how many chances they’re creating.
“It will be frustrating for him. You’ve got nine players behind you that you’re relying on to create chances. If they’re not coming you’ll struggle to score goals.
“I think he’s a good player. You don’t become a bad player in half a season. It’s his work rate and how he hassles defenders… and he’s proved he can score goals.
“The way Leeds play with one upfront it would really suit Pukki.”
GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...
Jean-Kevin Augustin has been a huge disappointment for Leeds United.
Three appearances for a player who was so highly-rated is hugely disappointing, particularly given the role that he could have played.
Augustin just hasn't been fit and that's been a big problem.
If the Whites had their way, they would send the striker back to RB Leipzig this summer and never look back, but with a mandatory purchase all-but agreed it seems that this could be tricky.
What the future holds for the 23-year-old remains to be seen, but he faces a long road back if he's to prove himself at Elland Road.
