Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane are widely considered as two of the best captains in the Premier League era.

Vieira won three league titles, four FA Cups and three Community Shields and was a stalwart in the Arsenal midfield during his time at the club.

Keane won seven league titles, four FA Cups and four Community Shields with Manchester United, as well as the Champions League in 1999. He is known for his aggressive style of play that helped to give his team the edge.

Clearly, they are two incredibly successful captains who helped to take their respective teams to glory during the biggest games.

But which captain do football fans prefer? They’ve been voting and the results can be seen further down this article.

The results show French World Cup winner Vieira ahead on 58% compared with 42% for Keane.

It’s a convincing victory for Vieira, who captained his side to the only ‘Golden’ Premier League trophy in the 2003-04 season after they went unbeaten.

Vieira’s team of the early-to-mid 2000s, which included the likes of Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljunberg, helped to make manager Arsene Wenger one of the world’s most revered managers.

During this time, he established himself as arguably the best box-to-box midfielder in the world.

After leaving Arsenal in 2005, Viera went on to play for Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City, winning Serie A five times.

Although Keane lost the poll to his former rival, he will go down in history as an inspiring and forceful Premier League captain who had huge success at Manchester United.

He was part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s treble-winning side in the 1998/99 season which included the likes of David Beckham, Dwight Yorke and current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That team won the league, Champions League and FA Cup, which Keane followed up with Premier League victories in 2000, 2001 and 2003.

His ability to break up play and win the ball back for his team made him one of the first names on the teamsheet for Ferguson.

However, his ability and success didn’t help him to beat the Frenchman, who has been voted by football fans as the favoured captain of the two legends.
