Tottenham Hotspur are determined to strengthen their squad this summer.

With the North London side way off the pace in their pursuit of a top four finish, it's inevitable that a big summer in the transfer market beckons.

Jose Mourinho's side are nine points behind fourth-place Chelsea at present, and with just seven games left it's likely that they'll miss out on a place in the Champions League next term.

That means that recruitment needs to be perfect if they're to get themselves back on track next term.

But while improving the first team is a priority, there's also going to be one eye on the stars of the future.

One player who has been linked is Eduardo Camavinga.

RMC have reported that both Tottenham and Liverpool are keen on a move for the Rennes midfielder.

The 17-year-old burst onto the scene in August last year and has proven himself as a first team regular since then.

Dubbed the new Claude Makelele, The French side are bracing themselves for real interest in their prized asset this summer, but according to their sporting director Florian Maurice, they will only entertain the highest of bids.

Speaking to RMC, Maurice said: “If Real Madrid offer £70 million for him, as is being talked about, the answer is no. We want him to stay so that he keeps developing at Rennes.

“For me it is clear, this player must be part of the project for the coming season. We want to continue with this player. It is important for him that he continues with Stade Rennais.

"He’s a very good boy, a great player.

“We have no intention of letting him go.

“It is worth pointing out that the player has the ambition and maybe the desire to go elsewhere. I would listen to him, but at the moment he has a Rennes contract.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Eduardo Camavinga is a player who seemingly has the world at his feet.

With the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Real Madrid interest, you just know that he's going to be a top talent.

It seems that Rennes will hold firm with regards to a transfer fee, however that stance may soften once an actual bid comes in.

It would be hard for them to reject a substantial bid and so it'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.
