Antoine Griezmann's struggles at Barcelona were evident for the whole world to see on Tuesday night.

The Frenchman was condemned to the bench against his former club Atletico Madrid and was only called upon by Quique Setien for the final two minutes of the game.

After the match, the Barca boss said following the 2-2 draw with Atleti: "It's difficult to put Griezmann on without destabilising the team."

A telling line, one which begs the question; why on earth did the Catalonian club spend over £100m on a player who was never going to gel with Lionel Messi?

The two operate in such a similar manner when they're at their best and trying to shoehorn both into a staring XI has proven detrimental to the team.

But former Barcelona player Christophe Dugarry has taken a much more brazen approach to the entire situation.

Instead of focusing on the logistical problems of accommodating both Messi and Griezmann on the pitch, the Frenchman has launched a shameless attack on the former.

"What is he scared of?" Dugarry said on RMC Sport when referring to Griezmann's plight, per Marca. "A guy [Messi] who is 1.50 metres tall and who is half autistic?

"The only thing he has to do is grow some balls at some point. People have been saying for a year that he has a problem with Messi.

Messi in action

"He has to give himself a slap in the face. Yes, maybe Messi could give him more passes, but it really doesn't surprise me.

"Griezmann loses possession. He plays scared. Griezmann should go and talk to Messi to resolve the problem."

Keeping it classy Christophe, eh?

The Frenchman also heavily criticised Setien's managerial approach, adding: "He's a coach on the slide, totally. Setien is a good guy, but he's not good enough. He doesn't know who to take off.

Setien & Messi

"He took off Sergio Busquets in the 85th minute to put on Ansu Fati and put Griezmann on in the 90th minute. It wasn't something against Griezmann. It's that he doesn't know how to make his team play. He's out of his depth."
