It could be a memorable season for Leeds United.

Promotion is very much on the cards for Marcelo Bielsa's side who are just six games away from glory.

The Whites are one point ahead of second place West Brom, and six clear of the chasing pack meaning that promotion is very much there for them to lose.

With that in mind attention is turning to next season to ensure that Leeds are prepared for what could be thrown at them.

That includes potential arrivals - many of whom the club have been monitoring for a number of months.

One of those players in John Swift.

It's thought that Reading could be open to selling one of their prized assets due to the financial trouble the club are currently going through.

Leeds' pursuit is irrespective of the division they play in next season and a £3.6m fee could be enough if Transfermarkt's valuations are to be believed.

But while Leeds have hopes of signing the player, it appears that they'll have to move quickly to get a deal done.

Football Insider are reporting that Sheffield United have made a formal offer for the midfielder.

The Blades have secured their Premier League status for next season and have already started putting plans into action to strengthen for next term.

It's claimed that the offer is worth £3million-plus.

Whether Reading will accept the opening offer remains to be seen, but Leeds United will certainly be keeping a close eye on this one.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a coup this could turn out to be.

John Swift is arguably one of the most underrated players in the Championship and deserves to be playing at a higher level.

Given Reading's financial struggles, it seems that it'll be difficult for them to keep hold of the player.

That means that a cut-price deal could be in the offing.

Sheffield United have made the first move, but Leeds United will almost certainly be weighing up an offer of their own.

As well as being technically gifted, Swift carries the stamina and work rate needed to really adapt to life in Marcelo Bielsa's side.

A fee of around £3million is a bargain for a player of his quality, and whoever manages to sign him this summer will have done an incredibly shrewd piece of business.
